EDITOR'S LETTER: THE SPRING SUMMER AYURVEDA ISSUE

Ayurveda

Distinguishing how to nurture yourself from expensive and often unhealthy wellness trends

Spring is about shedding so we can live in a carefree Summer. Letting go of what holds us back. The extra clothes, the extra pounds. The extra emotions. Acclimating to the heat should not compete with remnants from our past seasons. Our past lives.

As always, the Breakdown Magazine places science in the context of culture. We have covered Fashionable Science, Science is Beauty and Scince is Art. In this issue, the emphasis is placed on the Scientific Tidbits of Ayurveda. The healing system that focuses on prevention and implements curatives when necessary. As we live in a world of quandary, rising anxiety and ensuing conditions, it is the perfect time to introduce our readers to how Ayurvedic science and medicine is present in everything from outfits of the day, to exercise and Karl Lagerfeld. Learning how to use its principles allows us to decongest and move on to our days in the sunshine. Notably, we are distinguishing how to nurture yourself from expensive and often unhealthy wellness trends.

The Met Gala honors Karl Lagerfeld this year. Many see it as going backward since he frequently insulted “fat people”. Even Adele. Is it possible to separate the work from the person? We analyze it in three parts: the designer’s doshas, the exhibit and the gala. Investigating Lagerfeld’s contradictory persona- 18th century aristocrat and hot dog-lover -may allow others to add him to history as part of their liberation.

A universal focus on getting in shape for summer activities has not withered. Ayurveda sees perfection in individuality. This is because personal energy constitutes outer beauty. There are attributes in every type of body. The lethargic energies of Kapha are in all of us. But, which exercise is right for us and do we need to be Ozempic thin? Importantly, we look at how food effects mood and how to make personalized choices instead of based on trends. What should we eat during anxiety and how do we realize these “under-the-radar” symptoms? Let go of the avocado toast and kale, embrace personalization for a more vivacious season.

This issue also introduces Dosha Dressing. For too long Dopamine dressing has been pushed. We’re not sure why anyone would want to dress in relation to addiction. Instead, we breakdown dressing for personal energy to keep the best elements balanced. This provides beauty, simplicity and color pops tailored to your personality.
