Wear What Where Lab $tyle Edition 3: Lockdown Like a $cientist

“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”
COVID-19 lockdown restrictions has shown us if workwear on the regular is either fun or mandatory. Work from home (WFH) mandates across the US gave many people the cue to buy more sweats or athleisure sets. There are a few true-to-fashion peeps who would not dare go there and disappoint Karl Lagerfeld from his life in the beyond. Whatever the gear is, we can’t wear our PJs all day. The $cientist crew definitely loves to dress our best no matter where we are, but thebest $cientist Style is all about being comfortable in yoU. Check out the looks to get your WFH and beyond on.

Stay The F Home
Let’s be honest, hanging out in comfy sweats and Ts at home is a great way to work. Staying at home doesn’t mean we need to get sloppy, though. Topping off our chill wear with fresh shirts made in NYC with a positive message is the way to do WFH.

Work From Home Lab $tyle
Now that we’ve moved from the living room to the home office, we can ignite our $cientist style. It’s not the Summer of Love it’s the Summer of COVID-19, so limiting people at the office and lab is key to keep numbers low or steady. A linen Marimekko dress with signature waves paired with Pierre Hardy leather slides in yellow give some brightness to writing and writing science all day.
When the sun stakes its claim on sky and garden alike, our bodies yearn for relief as much as our palates do. The leafy green trifecta of purslane, frisée and chard arrives with all the panache of a seaside cocktail: bright, refreshing and impossibly good for you. Far from mere garnishes, these summer stalwarts carry a payload of cooling, hydrating and protective compounds.
Sea turtles have survived environmental challenges and natural predators for over 100 million years. While they do not experience anxiety in the same way humans do, they do exhibit stress responses influenced by their environment, health, and even their gut microbiome. The connection between the gut-brain axis and resilience offers fascinating insights into how these ancient mariners navigate their world. They are quite inspiring.
Beyond cortisol and serotonin, several lesser-known biomarkers play a role in emotional regulation, stress response, and cognitive function. BDNF and GSH you probably have heard of due to the ever-pervasive supplement industry. But three here are widely unknown to the general public. The people who can greatly benefit from regulating them.
Pitta-dominant individuals often exhibit heightened HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis activity, leading to increased levels of cortisol and norepinephrine, hormones the research and supplement community harp on as responsible for stress response and alertness. It is true to an extent. But there are innumerable other molecules and pathways responsible for our biggest wellness concerns.
This Summer, every ray is a statement piece. As the sun lingers into sultry evenings, nature whispers secrets of transformation- inviting you to radiate with luminous skin and an enlightened inner glow. Ruled by Pitta- the dosha of heat, metabolism, and digestive fire- this season beckons you to embrace a metamorphosis that effortlessly marries cutting-edge science with time-honored tradition.
Forget astrological compatibility. The future of love and friendship isn’t written in the stars- it’s rooted in something far more grounded. Doshas, the Ayurvedic blueprint of personal energy, dictate everything from how we sleep to how we eat. And when it comes to relationships, that kind of insight may prove more valuable than knowing someone’s rising sign.
Transformation is often mistaken for reinvention, for shedding old identities in favor of something strikingly new. But Ayurveda teaches us something entirely different- that transformation is a return. A refinement. A quiet but deliberate step back to what was always there.
Efforts to become a better version of oneself is increasingly gaining active attention. If the Tik-Tokkers are doing it, it must be a thing right. Diets, exercises, and supplements still play a fundamental role in how we perceive transformation into so-called better people. Why is so many people unhappy with what they chose to become?
Finding the so-called Right One takes more than a swipe and a list of objectives. No love story is as epic as Ram and Sita’s. Not every couple is as swoon-worthy as Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Dali and Gala remain surreal status symbols- dream couple, indeed. Have you become lethargic about love? From soulmate to twin flame, we either complement each other or are a Mary-Kate and Ashley oddity. Both really depend on one word.
These are some of the all-time favorite things that our Editor-in-Chief and Founder love. Dr. Kuver has tested these products for years and has come to love them. She also likes these businesses for their personableness.

Lockdown Dance Party
We can’t go out like in pre-coronavirus days because most dance bars and clubs are still closed. To expel that energy from chillin’ and working at home all week there’s nothing better than a DJ D-Nice Club Quarantine dance party. Anything with sparkle like these glittered Pierre Hardy shoes and a $cientist reflective T with microscopes resembling the NYC skyline. It’s so much fun this nerdicus needed to take off her specs.

When I was little, I’d twist up that toy plastic tube- my mom’s lipstick swabbed on for show- and stare at my bare lips, dreaming of grown-up glamour. Today, my vanity groans under the weight of tube after tube from Tom Ford, Chanel and Hermès. Truth is, I reach for them not only for color, but also for the thrill of their containers: a color-block sheath here, a porcelain refill there, each one a micro-exhibit of craftsmanship. Lately, I’ve been wondering whether that moment of uncapping could be more than ritual. That it might tip us toward harmony, too. Hello Ayurveda and a touch of lip science.
What if choosing your texture were a way to align your dosha?
In a world where TikTok trends clash with scientific evidence, the sun protection debate unfolds like a ‘90’s Alexander McQueen runway show- provocative and multifaceted, and irresistibly alarming. Who can blame the wellness conscious crowd with all that FDA fence-sitting? At this point, every sunscreen ingredient is on their “GRASE” list which basically says ‘we’re not sure if these chemicals are bad for you, so we are saying they are okay for you. For now’.
We live in an era when our relationship with the Sun remains as enigmatic as ever. Our radiant star- dazzling, unpredictable, and as temperamental as any secret paramour- continues to inspire both wonder and caution. It showers us with Vitamin D-producing rays, that essential nutrient for our bones and mood, yet it also harbors the risks of skin aging and cancer. In this age of Instagram-worthy aesthetics and wellness trends, conflicting messages abound: some claim that avoiding SPF is essential to harness nature’s bounty, while science paints a picture far more intricate.
In a world where glamour meets environmental stewardship, beauty brands are pioneering a new era of sustainable luxury. One where cutting-edge materials science transforms waste into works of art, and every product becomes a celebration of nature’s enduring spirit. Across glossy counters and digital screens alike, an innovative movement is unfurling: beauty that not only inspires but also nurtures the planet’s most vulnerable inhabitants.
In the quest for optimal hydration we often juggle plain water and coconut water. When gut inflammation or intense sweat sessions threaten fluid balance, trendy magnetized water and “all-in-one” blends join the debate. The Magazine recently tried Happier Grocery’s Strawberry Electrolyte drink (coconut water, oranges, strawberries, white snow fungus, pure trace minerals, ginger, lemon, raw honey). This is positioned as the ultimate contender. But, forget Simon, what does Science Say?
Beneath the gilded shimmer of a perfect summer day lies a quiet, unsettling truth. As we bask on the beach and layer on our favorite sunscreens in a bid to capture an effortless glow, an unintended enemy stirs beneath the waves. In our pursuit of radiant skin, many of us unknowingly contribute to the decline of timeless marine sentinels. Sea turtles! Their ancient grace now hangs in the balance.
Skin radiance is molecular resilience, shaped by antioxidants, circulation, and metabolic balance. For years, beauty has obsessed over surface treatments, chasing instant results without addressing the biochemistry of glow. But science and Ayurveda know better. There is one thing that still eludes all. It is a phenomenon found in nearly 90% of women and has yet to be cured. That thing that puts the thunderstorms in short-shorts Summers. Cellulite. We tested a superoxide dismutase supplement to see if it reduced visible fat.
Aging is inevitable. But how you age? That’s strategy. Whether it’s NAD supplements, anti-inflammatory skincare, or simply understanding that what happens inside eventually reflects on the outside, longevity is a lifestyle… not just a look.
One moment, experts declare that “just 10–15 minutes at midday with a quarter of your skin exposed is sufficient”. The next, you’re admonished to slather on broad-spectrum sunscreen from head to toe. How are we to navigate this labyrinth of advice? Especially when our modern lives rarely allow for a 10 AM “sunscreen-free” stroll, and our high-rise office windows block those essential UVB rays while still flooding us with aging UVA?
We are feeling bare healthy nails. The tips that get that natural shine. Quite opposite of the dried-out tips after wearing coats nonstop. If you are not, then these color combinations are sexy, cute and beautiful. If you are like me, then your vanity is probably covered with Vernis that want some love. Most of these are tridoshic duos that can be swirled or mono applied for mani-pedi standouts.
